EFnet admins has voted to merge together the United States (US) and Canadian (CA) portion of EFnet into a region called North America (NA). This is the first step into removing regions and performing votes and discussions on a global level. The two remaining regions are now EU and NA, and mostly handles new server applications while everything else is handled on a global level.
The European portion of EFnet have approved efnet.bredband2.se to link the network. The server is operated by Ahnberg and suom1 and is located in Malmoe, Sweden.
It is a sad day for me to announce the delink of irc.igs.ca. The server was linked as irc.avalonworks.ca in March 2003, handling 14,500 clients at our peak. We reverted to irc.igs.ca after the purchase and dismantling of AvalonWorks.
elsif, the admin of the server discontinued working for the new owner Cybersurf two years ago and was able to obtain sponsorship from them to keep the service going. Last year, Cybersurf was purchased by a company called Distributel, who served notice that within a year they would shut down the data center the server is located. So here we are, delinking the server Friday 6. August.

It`s not often that we at efnet.org comment on new IRC client releases, however this one is worth mentioning. mIRC v7.1 has been released with IPv6 support, UPnP support and you can now run the client full screen. The client is also more compatible with Windows 7.

After 60 days of trial irc.underworld.no is now a fully linked server to the European portion of EFnet. Enjoy
